Silent Key Announcement – Paul Tyschuk, VE6UFO
It is with a heavy heart that the passing of Paul Tyschuk, VE6UFO, is announced.
Paul succumbed to his courageous and tenacious battle with cancer on May 21, 2024. Diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer in 2017, Paul faced numerous challenges as the cancer spread to his liver. He endured 28 radiation treatments, bi-weekly chemotherapy for six months, and surgeries to remove the tumor and three sections of his liver. Over 100 rounds of chemotherapy later, Paul remained resilient, but sadly, he lost his battle on May 21.
Paul’s spirit was indomitable. Despite his illness, he lived life to the fullest, inspiring everyone around him. Amateur radio was Paul’s passion, second only to his family and close friends. He was a cornerstone of the QCARC club’s activities, and many have asked, “What are we going to do without him?” The response is simple: honor Paul by continuing his legacy—”get at it and git ‘er done.”
Paul’s dedication to the QCARC and the amateur radio community was unmatched. His call sign, VE6UFO, is well-known on the airwaves, and his voice will be sorely missed by all. Paul’s meticulous attention to detail and preparation for the future is evident in the organized instructions and records entrusted to the QCARC members. As the Club moves forward, Paul will be remembered by continuing the work he loved: The Net, Newsletter, and Flea markets will all continue, helping to ensure that the Stony Plain and Alberta amateur radio community stays active and remains connected.
Paul’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the actions and dedication of those he inspired.
