“Getting my amateur radio license had been a dream of mine since the 1950s, but I never quite found the time to study for the exam. When I recently revisited what was involved, I was honestly overwhelmed by the sheer number of questions in the ISED question bank and the wide range of topics covered. I didn’t feel confident trying to work through it on my own, so I started looking for online courses and eventually enrolled in Hamshack’s QSL Academy Basic Course.

One month later, I earned my Basic with Honours. 🙂

I chose this course because it was built around the new July 2025 ISED question bank, which gave me confidence that I was studying the most current material. The course breaks the content down logically into main sections, each further divided into manageable lessons. Every lesson includes a quiz, with an additional quiz at the end of each section. You can repeat quizzes as many times as needed until the concepts really stick.

What really sets this course apart is the quality of feedback. The quizzes explain why selected answers may be incorrect, which helped me learn instead of just memorizing. There’s also a built-in Quiz Tutor feedback system that allows you to ask questions and get clarification whenever something isn’t clear. 

After completing all the sections, the course provides full practice exams with 100 randomly selected questions, just like the real thing. After each exam, you receive a detailed results email showing which questions you missed and why. I was able to repeat the practice exams as often as I wanted until I felt confident.

Once ready, the course connected me with a certified examiner to write the official exam online. After passing, the examiner walked me through all the administrative steps to get my call sign issued and my ISED account set up. My call sign was activated within an hour, and I was on the air shortly after.
