VE7FM, Steve

I recently purchased a Yaesu Ft1000Mp Mk5 from Steve and all went well with the purchase (even though he was unwilling to ship). I hired someone to go get the radio and package it up and ship it to me. A while later i received the radio and that is where the disappointment came in. The radio was suppose to be 100% working and putting out 200w on all bands and all modes. Well it turns out that was not true whatsoever. The radio was completely unusable and would need to go to a repair Tech before any use. After contacting Steve he agreed to refund my money as long i was willing to ship it back to him. I immediately packaged the radio up and sent it back. After painful calls to Canada Post Steve finally went and picked up the radio and sent me a refund. Unfortunately shipping both ways was quite pricey and all could have been avoided if Steve had accurately listed the radio and divulged the problems. I would suggest that anyone purchasing an item from VE7FM (Steve Draper) approach the situation with and abundance of caution.

Thanks for sharing and helping to make hamshack.ca a safer on-line community.

I'd like to offer my side of the events as well.

I did list the Yaesu FT1000MP Mark-V for sale and didn't want to ship it because of the size/age etc.

Jason contacted me and said he would have a friend pickup the radio and ship it to him.

On July 29th he paid for the radio and it was to be picked up later that day. The radio was setup and I offered to demonstrate it operating. The person who picked up the radio was also a ham and declined to see it in operation.

1.5 months later, on September 13 Jason sent me a text and asked me to contact him. I called him the same day and he told me he was having problems with the radio.

I let him know the radio had been fully tested and was operating fine when it was picked up.

Honestly after 1.5 months I don't know what he really expected me to do but I still offered to refund the purchase price if he returned it.

He did send it back however Canada Post never attempted delivery. Once I was able to verify it was at a depot for pickup I left my job early to pickup the radio(this depot is only open 9-5 Monday to Friday).

I sent him an e-transfer that same day with the full amount of his purchase price.

I can understand that he is frustrated with what it cost him in shipping fees but I am equally frustrated that I received a radio back that doesn't work as it did when it was sold and picked up.
